Epic Creations

In world where most video games star a male hero and flimsy damsel in distress who needs saving, one girl, in a video design class, decided to make her own videogame, staring a female warrior who can fight monsters, break out of prisons, conquer castles, and most importantly, do it all on her own. The game has three songs, Sit Still Look Pretty by Daya, I’m Gonna Show You Crazy by Bebe Rehexa, and lastly, Who Run the World (Girls) by Beyoncé, that represent each level and the theme of the game. Between each level there is a splash page setting the scene of the next level. Each splash page has a quote that depicts the level and the message of empowerment.

These are the following things I changed and fixed from version one and two:

  1. Fix problem with scores variable
  2. Fix problem with lives variable
  3. Fix dragon fireball glitch
  4. Fix window/background/view problem that you mentioned
  5. Give your project a name so the browser tab doesn’t say “new project”
  6. Add more visual spacing between the score/life HUD and the edge of the screen
  7. Use a player skin for the subsequent levels (not just a blue box)
  8. There needs to be a play again button
  9. Add a variety of enemies instead of reusing the spiders on every level
  10. Add background music
  11. Make high score work
  12. Clearly explain the objectives up front
  13. Make it possible to return to the level where you died.
  14. Use a web typeface
  15. Fix Trolls on level 2
  16. Fix times played on high score page
  17. Fixed arrow from only shooting to the right

The following is a link to my video game: Tales of a Queen. I would also like to thank all the amazing artists that inspired my video game. The first being Daya, Bebe Rehexa, and Beyonce, for their songs and media presences of strong women. The second artists I would like to thank and give tribute to the writers that created the quotes I used including R.H. Sin, Nikita Gill, Daniel Saint, and E. Corona. Lastly, I would like to thank all the artists and game designers whose artworks I incorporated into my video game including: Mandi Paugh for her warrior princess, VisualPony, ZyryTSounds, tec studios, JoelAudio, AntumDeluge, DrMinky, Erdie, Streety, and multiple more people who you can view in my Game Design Document.

My animation is called The Reality… Bunny Run! This animation is about a bunny running away from a wolf and is eventually eaten. The opening scene is of trees spinning around to create an illusion and dreamlike atmosphere with a harmonious melody. The next scene is of a rabbit hopping, the rabbit hops it crosses path with a wolf. The wolf chases the rabbit until the rabbit jumps down its rabbit hole. When the rabbit reappears it has a carrot in its hand to give to the wolf. The wolf obviously does not eat carrots, the scene flashes black and when the scene appears again the wolf is covered in blood, the carrot is on the ground, and the wolf is standing there wagging its tail in happiness. The idea of this game was to show that logic overcomes what the heart wants. You can read more about my animation here.

For my DIY project, I decided to make popsicles which I can confidently say I will never do again. I made lemon strawberry popsicles and the preparation, cost, and time created to make them were not worth the end result. Along with that, the mess and stickiness of everything was horrible. However, I was able to go out of my comfort zone and do something I have never done before and record the entire process. I researched so many different types of popsicles, and there are hundreds of different types, and picked my favorite type. You can see my blog post here.

As a conclusion of this semester I would like to thank my professor Dr. Delwiche, who spent multiple Tuesday nights playing games with my class instead of being home with his family and truly went above and beyond as a professor. He took the time to design fun projects and allow students including myself to be creative and design something of their own. I am really proud of my creations and I am extremely happy I took this class.
